A Personal Memory -
It's Been Amazing

by Joyce Long

When we found out that our newest addition to the family had Down syndrome, there was a flood of emotions to the point of numbness & shock. But the love came first and foremost, and the commitment and dedication as a Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, Grand parent, ...these all came forth with a vengeance. We love her, and we would do what it takes to make sure that she knows it! We never knew the change the Lord would make in our lives, and the love He would show us through this child, the effects, the impact, is nothing short of amazing. I could never thank the Lord enough for what he has done, not just in our lives, but with all the lives he has touched through the short time our daughter has been on this earth.

You might think....how could she say that? god has shown me what He can do through our weaknesses! Most of us would have never imagined being the family member of a child with special needs. God has given me the privilege to be a part of a group of people that shine constantly with their strength, courage, determination, dedication, compassion, and drive they never knew they had! Watching not just our children with special needs grow, but watching our family members grow...I have watched a child with Down syndrome teach doctors a thing or two...it is truly amazing...DID I SAY EASY...NO....but I did say amazing! thank you to all for being the encouragement that you are whether you know it or not! I Praise god for each and every one of you...for those I have met, and those I look forward to meeting.

Choosing to have an attitude of gratitude makes this journey a lot smoother. We learn to appreciate the little things we took for granted, and re-prioritize those calendars, get hugs when we can, and celebrate every new day as a new opportunity. Thank you for letting me be a part of your group.
