2009 Buddy Walk Set For October 24th
Acton Up with Downs will host the 4th Annual Buddy Walk™ on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Aaron Bessant Park next to Pier Park. Our Buddy Walk™ has expanded from 68 participants the first year to over 400 participants in 2008! We look forward to an even bigger Buddy Walk™ this year with your support.
Though we have made great strides there is much work to be done and we rely on the collective efforts of media, businesses, parents, volunteers, professionals and concerned citizens to ensure acceptance of all people with disabilities is becoming even more widespread.
The Buddy Walk™ is held each October as a part of National Down Syndrome Awareness month. The primary goal of the Buddy Walk™ is to promote the awareness and acceptance of people with Down syndrome. Acton Up With Downs Panama City Beach Buddy Walk™ is a fun, family-friendly event. People with Down syndrome,families and friends walk a 1/2 mile course then celebrate with live entertainment, a picnic, children’s activities and fellowship.
Because Teams are instrumental to the success of a Buddy Walk.
A "team" is a group of 5 or more individuals that "team up" to support Acton Up with Downs or an individual with Down syndrome.
Raise Awareness People with Down syndrome are becoming active participants in our communities.
Forming a Buddy Walk team helps us raise awareness about Down syndrome and the contributions these individuals make to our communities!
Raise Funds
Your efforts will allow us to increase the activities and programs which will enhance the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome throughout Bay County and surrounding areas. This money is applied directly to local programs and services. You make a difference!

My name is Carla Macks and I want to thank Joyce for asking me to be the Chair/Director of this years Buddy Walk™. I am a stay at home mom for my son Billy and my husband has just recently retired from driving a school bus.
Time will sneak up on us quickly and it will be here before you know it. We have a lot to do and I look forward to everyone’s support, opinions and suggestions. There are several areas that need to be covered, so I am asking for your help.
We have Committee Chair opportunities in the areas of PR, Volunteers, Fund-raising, Raffle, Entertainment and Vendors. We also are looking for volunteers to help with Children’s Activities, Clean Up, Entertainment, Food Service, Down Syndrome Welcome Team, Merchandise, Distribution of printed Materials, Raffle, Recognition, Registration, Security and Safety and Set Up.
